What is a Locking Cylinder?

The locking cylinders have to be used in conjunction with a Cylinder Lockcase (Explained Below). The locking cylinder is the part that is used to lock and unlock the lockcase, hence the cylinder lockcase without a locking cylinder will not provide any means of security. In simple terms, the locking cylinder and cylinder lock case need to be installed together for the desired level of security. With the flexibility of the locking cylinder, you will only need to replace the locking cylinder rather than the complete locking case when you want to replace the key or allow furher flexibility for security.

What is a Cylinder lockcase

The lockcase, which is usually morticed into the door, provides the latch or dead bolt functionality to lock/unlock the door by using it together with the locking cylinder.

The cylinder lock has a number of advantages over other methods of door locking.

  • Ability to select the most appropriate combination of lockcase and cylinder function
  • Match the level of security to the precise needs of each door in the building
  • Upgrade security as the need of the building or its occupants change
  • Enable sophisticated masterkeying and key control capabilities where access to multiple doors can be allowed or restricted to varying personnel
